Great minds think alike, I already own EC at 9.15 share but I'm buying more as it drops.

It's under $8 premarket. I'll see where it opens

Those conglomerate acquisitions could pay off as Colombia gets integrated into the NAFTA manufacturing network. As Mexican labor has gotten more skilled a lot of the work they used to do is looking for cheaper alternatives close by. Central American is too small and has worse political and security issue then Colombia. Plus, Colombia is already has a free trade agreement with the US. With near-shoring and the implosion of China, Colombia could be a the beginning of a decades long economic boom.

All of South America probably has a very bright future. Ecopetrol is interesting with multibillion dollar infrastructure acquisitions across the continent

It's certainly an interesting analysis. My concern is with the unknown unknown risks with something like EC rather than the known unknowns if that makes sense. It would be amazing if if the company is not being systemically looted with that much cash sloshing around in a country like Colombia, although i appreciate it has a long history. I'm not sure my cajones are big enough to take a position is really what I'm trying to say...

They systematic looting is spending on green capex and infrastructure acquisitions. I'm not crazy about the green capex, but the infrastructure acquisitions could provide a nice cash flow for decades to come. Yeah, the unknown unknowns are rough, but for me as long as it's cheap enough, and EC is. But position size small just in case.

Municipal elections in Colombia last year were a blood bath. Petro lost almost all of them. Every Colombian I talk to wants him out.

The only problem with elections is they can always choose someone worse

Sir, do you prefer $EC over $GNRT?

Both have ups and downs. I like the old school low decline oil of Ecopetrol, but I don't like the bad capital allocation. I need more international exposure just in case that becomes a trend, I am already overweight energy with ACDC and RIG. Maybe not with reason but with gut reaction, I did buy EC today, but I haven't bought GRNT yet.

Interesting idea. Entered a small position via selling May 25 puts.
